Art Deco
Art Deco is a bold and lavish style of art that developed in the 1920s and 30s, integrating the opulence and modernity of the time. With its geometric designs, art deco glorified various colors and patterns, having impact on not just the visual arts, but also architecture, interior designing, and fashion. The movement creatively merged standard handmade artistry and modern styles by taking cues from industrial advancement, nature, as well as ancient cultures. A distinct feature of art deco is the traditional approach, which glorifies elegance and richness with emphasis on value and symmetry, line patterns, and use of plenty of resources like superb glass cut, exotic timber, and polished metals. The more understated and decorative approach stands for fascination with technology, prosperity, and progress leading it to become the central message of the Roaring Twenties as well as the early Hollywood glam. Art Deco style went beyond borders having primary influence on the Chrysler Building in New York, the colorfully pastel buildings in Miami, from luxurious cars with elegant curves to the extravagant interiors in the Parisian theaters. It has also made an impact in beautifully crafted jewelry, cinemas, and sophisticated typography. The style indeed went into decline after the Second World War, but its legacy still exists, and it continues to inspire the works of contemporary artists, designers, and architects. Today, Art Deco is still viewed as a sign of modern innovation alongside timeless elegance. It celebrates the remarkable ability to synergize ornamentation and function, tradition and modernity, and art and industry.
