Biennial
A biennial event in the art world is compared to a large scope international exhibition organised at intervals of two years. These events provide a receiving end for contemporary artists to put their pieces on display to a wider audience and even incorporates various styles and forms. Having started during the late nineteenth century, biennials have evolved to be an indispensable part of the art world, providing a glimpse of the contemporaneous trends and thoughts at a given period of time in the world of arts.
One of the oldest and notable verified biennial in the Venice is Venice Biennial which was commenced 119 years ago in 1895 and is considered to be one of the oldest and most well known. The Venice Biennale is famous for its wide variety of artists and pavilions from different countries which have profoundly contributed to the Venice Biennale and has greatly influenced the development of art discourse and cross-cultural dialogues. Another well known Venetian who also pays attention to contemporary art and society criticism is Documenta which has been hosted in Kassel Germany in since 1955.
Well-known performers like Yayoi Kusama, Ai Weiwei, and Olafur Eliasson took part in a number of biennials, and these are only a few names that add value to the fused artistic expression presented in the events. In allowing both renowned and upcoming artists to showcase their creations globally, it sustains the innovation, promotes conversation, and extends the limits of modern-day art practices.
