Balance
In the creation of an art piece, balance can be defined as the appropriate arrangement of visual elements in such a way that harmony and stability are achieved. Balance is achieved when colors, shapes, lines, and textures come together without one feature overpowering the other. Balance has existed ever since the Greeks and Romans set out to do art and architecture for themselves. Over time balance has and continues to be altered in its understanding like oblivious to its importance or understanding, balance serves as a connecting wire in the creation of relatable art and humanity. As an example, the Renaissance period brought about immensely skilled artists like Leonardo da VInci and Michelangelo. These masters created works of art and sculptures radiating beauty and harmony through the expression of symmetry and proportion. Skipping ahead a few centuries into the mid 20th century, the world was introduced to abstract expressionism. Jackson Pollock and Willem De Kooning were two artists who transformed the connection between art and balance by the introduction of energetic, asymmetrical, and dynamic pieces filled with tension and movement. In the end, a viewer of art pieces should be able to experience either an emotional or visual attachment towards it. In this sense, balance is important for artists who want to communicate and relate their messages to the viewers. It can be obtained in harmony and composition, as it makes visuals appealing, captures the interest of the audience, and provides reason and order, which results to the artwork's beauty and influence.
