About Selection
To be completely frank, for me, art is made up of little fragments that reflect my own experience and personality. While curating this selection, I thought long and hard, trying to figure out: "Why these exact pieces?” or “What could possibly unite them?” until it suddenly dawned on me that in each of them, I see a part of my own life’s journey - sometimes the past, and sometimes the present.
Some of the paintings are about nostalgia and things that resonate with childhood warmth - like an old Soviet apartment block stairwell, where the paint was peeling off the walls in chunks because there were more layers of it than my own years of age. Some of the artworks look as if they are trying to stand out from the rest (which mirrors my own constant internal desire).
Another thing that probably unites them is that I can easily envision each one in a physical space, albeit in different locations. I just have this distinct feeling that they already belong to a specific place, even if I can’t quite prove it yet.
