Curated by
Joana Rousseau
A taxonomy of unfinishedness rather than a survey of style or medium.
Joana Rousseau is an Art Curator who thinks in crossings — between cities, disciplines, and industries that rarely speak the same language. Each artwork in this selection was chosen for the precise moment it occupies in the passage from latency to fixation, so that thread, charcoal, oil, and photograph function as different chemistries of the same event: an image arriving, resisting, and sometimes refusing to complete itself. The artworks were selected not for what they depict, but for where they stand in that passage: the same event rendered in different chemistries. The artists were chosen because each works fluently in a different register of that same passage: Davydenko in raw mark-making, Duchenchuk and Korotkevych in charcoal's slow emergence, Holub, Ahranovska, Shkoliar, and Dulin in bodies caught mid-formation, Stefchyshyna and Ferreira in color pushed to permanence, together mapping the full arc, one artist per stage.
