Frequently Asked Questions
For Buyers
What is Subjektiv's main offer?
We're the first exchange for physical artworks. We connect buyers and sellers to trade and own artworks. We ensure that the whole process from the first purchase to future resales is easy, transparent, and secure.
Art is a physical asset that holds or grows in value over time; therefore, it should be accounted for and tracked for active and liquid operation.
We focus on tangible artworks worldwide: pieces that make you pause, stir something in you, and improve your space for years. We check every artwork and give it its own passport. You get the tools to buy it, grow its value, and resell it when you're ready for something new.
What types of art can I purchase on Subjektiv?
Any physical artwork you can imagine. Some pieces are made for your walls, like paintings, drawings, and photographs. Others are made to live in your space, like sculptures, ceramics, musical instruments, and design objects. Every artwork is original and unique.
What is the primary and secondary market?
The primary market involves all transactions between artists (primary sellers) and buyers. The primary market is where each new artwork is registered and starts its ownership history.
The secondary market involves transactions between owners and buyers. This is where artworks are resold for the second and all subsequent times. The primary market is akin to an IPO. The secondary market is regular trading between the next owners of the security.
What is the Subjektiv Commission structure?
We only charge commissions from successful transactions. We don't charge listing or subscription fees.
Artists pay a 7% commission if they sell through our QR codes or dedicated links, but through their own channels, i.e. use our platform for registering their artworks as well as for payment and logistics.
Artists pay 30% on any regular platform sales.
Owners pay 5% on the sale of the artwork that they bought previously on Subjektiv.
Owners pay 12% on the sale of the artwork that they didn't buy on Subjektiv.
Buyers are charged only on secondary transactions (purchase from existing Owners, not Artists). The fee is 8%.
How do Artist Royalties work?
Artists can receive royalties in the future on any artwork sold on Subjektiv. (Please note that if the Owner sells the artwork that wasn't initially bought on Subjektiv, the royalties are not paid.) The royalties are calculated on the increase in value of the artwork and constitute 15%.
Example:
The artwork was initially sold on Subjektiv for $1,000. Then the owner resold it for $1,300. The artist receives 15% of the $300 increase in price, i.e. $45. If the artwork resells again for $3,000, the artist receives royalties again, this time, 15% of $1,700, i.e. $255. The process continues ad infinitum.
How does Subjektiv select artists?
Our artist selection involves a three-step process:
- Open Access: Any artist can join Subjektiv by creating a free account, unlocking key features like the digital studio and Direct Sales at a low 7% commission rate.
- Curation: Our moderators and art experts curate select works to be featured prominently across Search and the public Timeline.
- Promotion: We actively highlight top artworks in our Featured section, curated Selections, and Exhibitions, as well as feature selected artists in exclusive interviews.
How do I know if the artwork is original or a print?
Every work on Subjektiv is original. It is unique; it is not reproduced, and the artist does not publish further editions (unless clearly outlined otherwise).
When you buy an artwork, you receive a digital certificate of authenticity and ownership record. The certificate is unique and tied to that one artwork. It records changes of ownership and price, so artists can receive their payments and royalties transparently if the work later gains value.
How are the artworks priced on Subjektiv?
Prices for artworks are set by the sellers. Additionally, Subjektiv helps sellers evaluate artworks using its proprietary valuation model.
What is Subjektiv artwork valuation model?
Our proprietary valuation model was inspired by asset pricing models used in financial markets. It combines logarithmic regression, black-scholes option pricing model and other mathematical tools to calculate the price.
We use it as a tool to assist all sellers (including artists) with pricing their artworks. The primary goal of this model is to bring structure to the market as a whole and improve liquidity. We will continue refining this model to provide buyers with additional tools for valuing art based on personal utility and market expectations.
What payment methods are accepted on Subjektiv?
Transactions are processed securely via Stripe, supporting Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
Is international shipping available?
Yes. We partner with carriers like DHL, UPS, Nova Poshta, and Meest Express. We automatically select and manage the optimal route to ensure fast, secure delivery.
If you see a delivery error under Shipping at checkout, it means:
- The artwork's location is outside our delivery provider's area, so it can't be collected for shipping.
- Your shipping address is outside our delivery provider's area, so none of our providers can deliver there.
We are extending our delivery and pick-up range and will tell you when your area becomes available.
Can I resell an artwork on the platform if my preferences change?
Absolutely. You can easily resell artwork purchased on Subjektiv. We lock reselling for 3 months after the purchase, so you can have enough time to experience living with specific artwork. After that, you can resell artwork from your Subjektiv profile in a couple of clicks.
How do I resell my artwork on Subjektiv?
If you bought the artwork you want to resell on Subjektiv before, then simply go to your Collection, open the artwork, click Set Price, and add all necessary details. Once the artwork is sold, we deduct a 5% commission from your listing price.
You can also resell the artwork that you didn’t buy on Subjektiv. You should register and create your account, upload your artwork, and add its high-quality photos. Then you can use our valuation model to decide what price to set for your artwork. Once the artwork is sold, we deduct a 12% commission from your listing price.
What is the Subjektiv Reflections Hub?
It is a place on our platform where you can browse all artworks and write your reflections on those that captured your eye. There are different questions that prompt a deeper reflection process and guide your attention. We created this exercise for you to concentrate, to look closer and to articulate better what you see and feel.

What kind of support does Subjektiv provide for marketing my artworks?
We offer:

How does Subjektiv handle payments to sellers?
Payments are processed securely via Stripe. Funds are held until the buyer confirms receipt of the artwork, then transferred to your connected bank account minus platform commission.
Are there guidelines for uploading and describing my artwork?
Yes. To get better buyer reach, we recommend:
- Upload high-resolution images; ideally, add photos of the artwork in its environment (in your studio or room)
- Give a detailed description with dimensions, medium, and inspiration. If there was a particular story about that artwork, please feel free to share it.
- Add relevant style, subject, and category so people can find your work.
- Be clear about shipping, delivery, and any special instructions.
- Add a creation process video if you are an artist, showing the details of making the artwork.
Do I set my own artwork prices?
Yes, artists retain full control over pricing. We advise reviewing comparable market pieces while factoring in material costs, time, and career history. Additionally, Subjektiv helps sellers evaluate artworks with our proprietary valuation model, which can be used as a sounding board for your pricing decisions.
How can I increase my visibility on Subjektiv?
- Regularly upload new artworks to keep your profile active. People can subscribe to your profile, so they will watch your updates.
- Engage with the community by liking and writing reflections on other artworks.
- Link to your Subjektiv profile from external websites and social media.
- Share insights into your creative process by adding "New Moments" to your artwork.
Can I upload the artworks which I don't want to sell yet?
Yes, you can, and we advise you to do so. This will help to establish your portfolio in case you are an artist and enrich your collection in case you are an Owner. The process is similar to uploading all your artworks, with the only exception that you shouldn't set the price. Such artworks will be marked as “Not available for Sale”.
How do I remove an artwork listing?
You can manage listings depending on your preference:
- Delist from Sale: On the artwork page, select "Change price" and “Mark as Not available" to remove it from sale and hide the current price.
- Permanent Deletion: Go to "Edit artwork" > "Delete Artwork" to permanently remove the listing. Active sales orders must be fulfilled before deletion.
Since your artist profile serves as a digital portfolio, keeping non-salable works published is recommended to showcase your catalog. Deletion is best reserved for works you no longer wish to present.
