Anna Varshavska
Artist from Ukraine
Born in Odesa in 1997 into a family of artists of Ukrainian and Greek descent, Anna lived there until the age of 19 before moving to Lviv. She obtained her Master’s degree in Monumental Painting from the Lviv National Academy of Arts.
Growing up between the cultural contexts of Southern and Western Ukraine, Anna developed a strong connection to her roots, which is reflected in her artistic practice.
Her work is characterized by a minimalist, nuanced color palette, as well as laconic forms and silhouettes. She works across various media, including ballpoint pen, acrylic and oil painting, as well as sculpture and installation. A central focus of her practice is the human body as a carrier of memory — a space where personal and collective histories intersect.
Her works are held in private collections in Ukraine and across Europe.

“Deux”
Painting by Anna Varshavska
180 x 70 cm • Canvas, Acrylic, Oil, Oil paint
“Deux” explores proximity and distance between bodies through the imagery of mannequins — impersonal, somewhat androgynous forms that act as carriers of memory and, to a certain extent, function as self-portraits, as in much of the artist’s work. Two figures touch in profile, creating a delicate balance between intimacy and estrangement.
The mannequin emerges as a metaphor for the body as an archive, preserving traces of experience and time. The work reflects on the transformation of the body and a quiet dialogue between two forms that simultaneously mirror one another.
Duality, mirroring, and symmetry — as metaphors for cell division, twinning, or splitting — have appeared in Anna’s work since her studies at the Lviv National Academy of Arts.
