Keystone
Keystones relates to architecture and engineering as the stone that is placed on top of the center of an arch and is crucial for the stability and integrity of the entire arch structure. The concept of the keystone can also be observed in ancient Roman and Greek architecture like the King’s Aqueduct, Bridge of Alcantara and Temple at Baalbec. The Parthenon in Athens and Pantheon in Rome are both illustrative of the use and the importance of keystones in architecture. The one with the most importance in regard to all other elements of art and composition like the keystone is that it unifies the rest in a central place, that rests together everything. The term is metaphorically used to denote that component which upholds the system, idea or narrative to make it cohesive. The harmony and balance has been stressed upon by the great artists like Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci through the rest of the composition around central focal points and so the concept of the keystone has been incorporated. The keystone illustrates the symbols of strengths no matter if be it structures or artistic representations.
