Form
To an artist, form is a basic structure of a specific artwork and relates to its physical appearance. It includes such visual elements as shape, line, color, and even texture and is primary in achieving the composition and beauty of the artwork. Purposefully organized forms evoke certain emotions as well as aesthetically please people. Various movements throughout the history of art have contributed attention to form such as the early 20th century Cubism style, which was dominated by geometric shapes, and the mid-20th century Abstract Expressionism which was characterized by more organic forms.
The outstanding and well-known artists who are admired to be the leaders of the current form’s development are: Pablo Picasso who was notorious for his regular shapes of Cubist composition deconstruction. Jackson Pollock, however, is well known for his active and emotional forms of action painting which he dynamically expressed. These artists influenced greatly the perception of the form as one of thesimplistic and yet most important elements of modern and contemporary art. Form is an elemental component of visual art that gives structure and rhythm to the diverse forms of life wrapped within artistic creations.
