Op Art
Optical Art, or Op Art, is a contemporary art style that grew out of the use of visual illusions in the 1960s to deceive the audience into believing that static objects are in fact three-dimensional spaces. Practitioners of this movement dealt with illusionary space and visual dynamics in a deeply engaging manner. As a subset of Visual Arts that involves the use of illusionary effects, Op Art employs Perfect geometric shapes, rhythmical designs, contrasting colors, and sharp lines that create either a positive or negativity tension between visual elements, which transforms the visual attributes into oscillatory pictures. Victor Vasarely, Bridget Riley, and Julio Le Parc are some of the well knowned Op Art performers. Striking popular culture during its height, Op Art stood more than a movement; the style raised questions regarding style and design execution. Displaying the intersection of art and science, Op Art creates a need for active engagement and interaction with the visual stimuli presented by the artwork. The movement is the epitome of the integration of art and technological advancement where artists relied on optical effects combustion to astoundingly manipulate creations visually. The effort put into mold-breaking innovation and experiment within the scope of art serves as groundwork for the continued influence of contemporary opus artworks inspired by Op Art.
