Oil Pastel
Creole oil pastels refers to a type of art material which is lively colored, creamy in consistency, and multifunctional. Compared to the traditional pastels, oil pastels are more pigmented and made with an oil binder that does not dry, which makes blending and layering effortless. Many artists accepted this medium after the mid-twentieth century as it provided a new approach to painting and drawing. Oil Pastel, which was innovated by Picasso and used by famous artists like Matisse, and Klee, showed to the world its possibilities of achieving bold expressive compositions and showcased their works. As stated, the usage of oil pastels rose exponentially during the 50s and 60s when modern artists strived to utilize this medium in their art. Oil pastels have become the most preferred medium among these modern artists due to ease with which intricate details and broad strokes are rendered, thus enabling experimentation withing the wieling of texture and color. Painters and drawers alike can rejoice in the newfound creativity that oil pastels offer since they serve elegantly in merging the two mediums together. Regardless of whether someone uses them for hyper-realistic drawings, loose emotive drawings, or even basic scribbles, oil pastels never fail to aid in unleashing the user's imagination.
