Hue
In art, a "hue" refers to the pure spectrum colors that make up the visual light spectrum. These hues help to build the color theory and are a significant factor critically analyzed in a composition. Each hue corresponds to a different wavelength of light, and these are identified as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Although pure hues constitute the simplest form of colors, they can be transformed to different shades and tones by different techniques such as shading and tinting. The notion of hues has been fundamental with respect to art, especially during the Renaissance where colors were used to express emotion and depth in paintings by Leo Da Vinci and Michelangelo. In the 19th century, Impressionist painters such as Monet and Edgar Degas focused on the effects of color and light which revolutionized the use of hues. The comprehension of colors plays an important role in the life of an artist, for it helps him/her create pleasing color compositions, set moods, and establish relationships in different artworks. With the right control of colors, these artists can add richness, brightness and depth in their creations which improves the beauty and impact of their work further.
