Hatching
Hatching refers to a drawing technique which involves the creation of value, texture, and form employing parallel lines that have a close spacing. In hatching, parallel lines are systematically laid down in a way that they increase in density towards a particular end to create depth in shading. Traditional art was the original embracing entity of this method as it appears to have been used for centuries in order to ensure that images captured actually possessed some degree of depth and dimension. More complex tonal variations might be achieved through cross-hatching wherein the length of the lines as well as the direction they face changes and becomes dependent on the effect that needs to be achieved. Artists from the Renaissance period like Leon adro Da Vinci were known for and supporters of hatching through the meticulous artwork that they chose to showcase like sketches and drawings. Albrecht Durher was also known vouch for the use of this technique throughout its drastic and precise ease. In the realms of illustration and comics, greats such Winsor McCay as well as Hergé incorporated hatching technique in shading scenes and characters to bring them to life. With the increased popularity of hatching, it became added to the common palette available to an artist. Digital art and graphic design also began adopting as a technique in which graphic designers digitally captured images using software. Kim Jung Gi as well as Rebecca Mock are some of the most renowned modern day artist who om modified the term hatching to make it more visually intricate as well as appealing. Due to its immense creativity barriers, hatching is still taught and used by many artists making it the easiest way to transform traditional forms of art to a modern day form.
