Gustavo Sanches de Castro (Espinho, 1986) breaks away from the rigor of drafting
to explore the catharsis of abstract expressionism. Since 2018, he has used purely
tactile painting as a tool for liberation, merging body and canvas in a tense balance
between chaos and tranquility. Influenced by the precision of architecture and
engineering, his aesthetic research progressively expands into three-dimensional
space, giving physical substance and volume to the visceral gesture.

“Starting to See the Starry Sky” materializes the concept of slowing down and the
importance of natural rhythm in the journey of personal transformation. The piece
is na invitation to lingering contemplation, reflecting the philosophy of “going slow”
and valuing the details that reveal themselves when we allow time to pass with
awareness.
Visually and structurally, the artwork is built through na overlay of blue and light
blue tones, creating a depth that evokes the vastness of the firmament. Over this
base, a diffuse white mist suggests a progressive revelation—the clarity that
emerges after introspection. Dynamism is punctuated by streaks and dots in lime
yellow, representing flashes of inspiration and achievements that arise without
ever losing touch with the ground.
