Nine Wounds
Painting by Anton Mykhalchuk
100 x 70 cm • Acrilic
Location:
Чортків, Ukraine
This painting is a comprehensive exploration of fundamental existential themes that underlie human existence: fear, death, birth, loneliness, love, creativity, and destruction. Each of these themes is presented through an homage to iconic classical works from various eras, reinterpreted in the style of cave painting. The artist applied textured acrylic paste to create a relief surface, giving the canvas a sense of authenticity and a connection to primal art. The background is executed in a dynamic style of abstract expressionism, inspired by Jackson Pollock, creating contrast and emphasizing the dialogue between the ancient and the contemporary. The multi-layered structure allows the viewer to engage in reflection on the constancy of human nature, which, despite historical transformations, retains its essential characteristics. The work aims to serve as a mirror in which modern humans can see themselves while simultaneously feeling a profound connection to ancient times. It is a visual collage that combines art history with personal reflection, while also reminding us of the universality and permanence of existential experiences.
