Apple aroma
Painting by Lana Korolievskaia
30 x 29.5 cm • Oil on canvas
This small work is a continuation of the creative approach that I started in the painting "Dance of butterflies around a flower" (2020), combining a realistic image of flora and abstract geometric structures that dot everything like a web and turn real objects of objective reality into a kind of stained glass or mosaic. A similar principle was implemented by me in the paintings "Diffusion of rose scent" (2020) and "Metaphysical still life of passing autumn" (2024). Suddenly returning to the established approach after the landscapes, I am supplementing my series with this new artwork created on the basis of the developed patterns. And again, as in most of my works, despite the apparent superficiality under the mask of purely visual appeal, one may not notice the fullness of hidden meaning. The contradictory symbol of the apple is shown here in an absolutely benevolent key, without a hint of the consequences of eating it. Once someone has tasted the forbidden fruit, he can't stop yet. Advertising media provide the most sophisticated consumers with a wide range of fruits for every taste. And these fruits are no longer forbidden. They exude a scent, attracting those connoisseurs of their taste who will appreciate them, just as flowers attract insects, and ladies attract gentlemen, sprayed with pheromone deodorant. The unlined nature of the picture plane makes it resemble a mosaic, created from separate fragments of the primary building material, linked together by someone's creative genius, who managed to unite the disparate into an indivisible whole, which, however, is only one of the possible combinations.
