Red nude
Painting by Daria Butriashkina
50 x 60 cm • Oil on canvas
Location:
Lviv, Ukraine
It's an intuitive work, created without a sketch or a clear concept. Only after finishing it was I able to reflect on its meaning. To me, it represents a state of self-acceptance and openness, but also a conflict between outer appearance and inner reality. The pose, which suggests confidence and self-assurance, contrasts with the chaotic, almost aggressive brushstrokes — symbolizing internal instability. On the surface, there is a sense of acceptance and embodiment, hard-won through personal struggle. But beneath it lies anger and insecurity, shaped by the painful experiences that women often endure. These experiences don’t simply fade — even in moments of self-embrace, they remain present, quietly shaping the inner landscape.
