Expressionism
“Expressionism” is an important artistic movement that first developed in Germany in the early 20th century. Concentrating on subjective emotions rather than objective reality, Expressionism sought to use style to convey feelings and experiences. Associated artists purposefully sought to achieve maximum viewer reactions through the use of strong colors, distortion, and active composition. The most well-known representatives of Expressionism are Edvard Munch, who painted ‘The Scream,’ and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, who was one of the founders of the famous group, Die Brücke.
