Documentary Photography
The moments, people, places and events were captured in documentary photography which can be termed as a type that portrays real life. It also seeks to document cultures, provide records of social issues and events in a journalistic style that aims to for, educate or create attention. In the early twentieth century, photojournalism came into life and became well known during depressive times with famous stares like Walker Evans and Dorothea Lange capturing all the anguish behind it. In the mid 20th century, greater acceptance emerged with the conception of ‘the decisive moment’ under the famous name making it more known with people like Henri Cartier-Bresson and the killings of the wars done by Robert Capa. Most documentary photographers develop a close relationship with the subjects to enable and facilitate the delivery of powerful images that tell true stories within the given context. All over the world today, documentary photography serves as a significant means of supporting a claim or telling a story and bold names such as James Nachtwey and Sebastiao Salgado beautifully expressing grand issues visually. With the ability to capture reality forthrightly and caringly, documentary photography is an essential medium to keeping history, making change, and providing understanding to people from broad backgrounds.
