In his artistic practice, Melnyk explores nature, space, memory, and the inner states of human experience. An image of motherhood as a source of protection, memory, and inner strength. The figure is presented in a generalized, almost faceless form — its individual identity recedes, leaving the archetype of the Mother.
The yellow radiance surrounding the figure resembles a halo, light, or protective field, emphasizing its sacred presence. The dark central form creates a sense of concentration, silence, and depth.
The contrast between yellow and deep green intensifies the emotional tension of the work. Textured brushstrokes, abrasions, and layers of paint evoke a memory preserved through time.
“Mother” is not a portrait of a particular person, but a symbol of unconditional presence — one that protects, holds, and remains with us even when she is no longer beside us.
