I am Nina Fedotova, a Ukrainian artist working with color, minimalism, and metaphor.
My artistic practice combines minimalism, surrealism, and elements of pop art. My paintings are built around vibrant colors, simple forms, and symbolic imagery that invite viewers to look beyond the obvious.
Chickens and ostriches are the central characters in my work. These metaphorical figures serve as tools for exploring human nature, emotions, behavior, and the ways people interact within society.
Many of my paintings emerge as a response to personal experiences, including tension, uncertainty, and the realities of living in a country affected by war. Through bold color palettes and minimalist compositions, I seek to create space for reflection, irony, and fresh perspectives on everyday life.
My work balances playfulness and depth, using visual simplicity to address complex emotional and social themes.

One of a kind
The painting “My Best” - where chickens appear as women - symbolizes the relationship between a man and a woman. A man leading a chicken on a leash symbolizes his attitude towards his woman. Next to the man there are other chickens, not worse or better than his, but his is the best. The chickens that follow him in a line become a metaphor for repetition, dependence, or the standards that society imposes on women. This image reflects the philosophical question of individuality and freedom of choice, emphasizing monotony and impersonality.
The combination of blue skies and orange buildings creates the perfect backdrop for this surreal scene. Blue symbolizes calm and freedom, while bright orange houses can be associated with life's difficulties or a confining everyday framework. The contrast between the objects and their context reinforces the metaphorical nature of the painting.
