Sofiia Korotkevych
Artist from Ukraine
Sofiia Korotkevych is a visual artist from Lviv. She graduated in monumental painting (Lviv State College of Decorative and Applied Arts named after I. Trush) and art glass (Lviv National Academy of Arts).
One of the main focuses of her artistic interest is the archaeology of the present — researching the nowadays as a layer in which traces of experiences, events, and interactions between human and environment are preserved. In Sofiia’s works, landscapes and objects appear as carriers of these social symbols and memories. Her approach reflects a philosophy of interaction and intervention: manual labor is a way of thinking, and working with materials becomes a metaphor for the phenomena we encounter every day. The artist mainly works in art glass, installation, environmental art, graphics and video.

Triptych the Burdocks, sunflower seed drawing
Drawing by Sofiia Korotkevych
70 x 37 cm • Mixed media, Varnish, Board, Live plants, Acrilic
One of a kind
A series of graphic works dedicated to the Ukrainian steppe — a natural landscape with its own rich cultural and ecological context, which is currently inaccessible due to the ongoing war. The images are created using sunflower seeds: each line is a direct trace left by a seed drawn across the surface of the work. The reference material for the drawings comes from dried plants sent to me by friends serving on the front line and living in eastern and southern Ukraine.
In these works, I depict the steppe through one of its most recognizable symbols — the sunflower. Individual marks made by the seeds gradually form a landscape that is familiar to me, and to many others, more through imagination, memory, and cultural imagery than through direct personal experience.
This triptych consists of 3 boards, each of which is 30x20x2 cm
