Sofiia Korotkevych
Artist from Ukraine
Sofiia Korotkevych is a visual artist from Lviv. She graduated in monumental painting (Lviv State College of Decorative and Applied Arts named after I. Trush) and art glass (Lviv National Academy of Arts).
One of the main focuses of her artistic interest is the archaeology of the present — researching the nowadays as a layer in which traces of experiences, events, and interactions between human and environment are preserved. In Sofiia’s works, landscapes and objects appear as carriers of these social symbols and memories. Her approach reflects a philosophy of interaction and intervention: manual labor is a way of thinking, and working with materials becomes a metaphor for the phenomena we encounter every day. The artist mainly works in art glass, installation, environmental art, graphics and video.

#30 from the Herbariums of the Burnt Landscape series, fused glass picture
Mixed media by Sofiia Korotkevych
39 x 39 cm • Glass, Live plants
One of a kind
These herbariums are plants burnt in a muffle kiln between two glasses, which were collected in the steppes of Ukraine. Burnt at 750+ degrees, through their remains and ashes, they tell the story of the literal destruction of the Ukrainian landscape by fire during the hostilities. The glass emphasizes the fragility of these territories, becomes a document of the crimes committed against the Ukrainian landscape by Russia.
This artwork can be framed or mounted with Г-shaped hooks. The visualisations were generated automatically and do not account for the glass's transparency. As a result, the clear glass may appear whiter than the wall behind it, although the artwork is transparent in reality
