Before the Third Rooster Crowed
Painting by Yuliia Didevych
70 x 60 cm • Oil and canvas

“Before the Third Rooster Crowed” captures a quiet, almost enchanted moment between night and dawn — when the world is still holding its breath, and the soul is filled with anticipation. A woman in traditional Ukrainian attire embraces a rooster — a symbol of awakening, truth, and subtle unrest. The deep violet background, blooming hollyhocks, and the thin crescent moon evoke a dreamlike sense of nostalgia, resilience, and ancestral memory. This painting speaks of feminine strength, heritage, and the silent power of waiting.
