Aspid
Mixed media by Liubov Datchenko
70 x 100 cm ⢠Paper, Watercolour, Toned paper
In Slavic mythology, Aspid is a snake of heavenly or underground origin, a spirit of dark, primal power. In some legends, he is a servant of the underground kingdom who guards treasures or entrances to another world. He personifies fire and mind, knowledge capable of both creation and destruction.
The snake's body symbolizes time, eternity, and the cyclical nature of existence. It is also an image of the Circle of Life, where death and birth are parts of the same process.
The rhombic and triangular elements in the vytynanka are symbols of the earth, protection, and magical defense that restrain dark energy.
