Once upon a time on Podil
Reflect on...
Artwork details
In this work I turn to the visual aesthetics of pop art. A traveling streetcar going from nowhere to nowhere in tandem with fly mushrooms creates a psychedelic narrative on the canvas, referring to the hippie era.
The trigger for the painting was streetcar number 5. Its route was considered one of the most beautiful in Kiev, as it traveled from Podol, along the capital's embankment and to its final stop near the Patona Bridge. Riding it, one could enjoy the views of the Dnieper and the islands on it.
