Valeriia Vertii

Valeriia Vertii (b. 1998, Ukraine) is a visual artist based in Paris. Through her work, she explores the human impact on the environment, often focusing on the objects of nature and their transformation under different circumstances. Vertii employs a diverse range of materials—including fabric, clay, wood, and metal, often repurposed—to explore the cycles of change that affect both nature and humanity. Her works often allude to topics such as memory, trauma, violence, and ecology. In her creative process, Valeriia uses a technique involving multiple layers of paint, which she applies and then peels off, mirroring the multi- exposure technique in photography and the technique of icon painting on specifically prepared boards. This approach allows her to convey the fragmentation and complexity of perception of information, reflecting its multi- layered nature without post-processing it in a rational, conscious manner.
