Lizette Nin
Lizette Nin (b. 1984, Dominican Republic) is a prominent creative artist based in Barcelona. Her work revolves around autobiographical aspects, her Afro-descendant roots. With her art, she intends to give visibility to groups and social struggles forgotten by the mainstream. She works across different mediums, including video, food, drawing, and printing, to create works that invite viewers to connect with and reflect upon diverse experiences. Her current work centres on doing as a mean of production, with actions such as cooking or braiding hair becoming the work itself. Through these actions, she aim to create spaces for exploration and investigation beyond traditional research methods Nin is particularly interested in the experiences of former colonies and the ways in which memory can be erased, and the importance of preserving the histories and experiences of the black diaspora. She aims to create spaces for reflection, conversation, and understanding, and to honour the legacies of those who came before us while working toward a more equitable future.
