A new date every three days, a new guy, and not a single chance at a second meeting. Only later did it become clear: during that period, a cold phantom was governing from within consciousness. Complete control over decisions and reactions was surrendered to it. It grew out of the anger stemming from the betrayal of my fragile first feelings of love, which to another person was merely a game—a bet with a friend. That lie burned away my trust in people for years to come. That was how I knowingly met my own "Nymph." This phantom is not strictly personal—everyone has one with its own shape, name, way of influencing, and origin story. In art history, the nymph has always embodied a wild, uncontrollable attraction that drags one into the depths; a spirit of water or forest capable of driving a traveler mad. Classical painting depicted her in an idealized female body. On this canvas, the "Nymph" is stripped of that facade. She is cultivated, awakened, and manifested inside a glass. She is that very blue, icy phantom—a defense mechanism we construct inside our own heads. Context within Artistic Practice This work is a continuation of the exploratory series Illusion of Perception. While the previous canvas in the series—Through the Glass 5: The Unicorn—explored the subject experiencing these illusions, The Nymph becomes a laboratory dissection of what exactly we cultivate inside that protective cocoon.
