Andrea Paz
Artist from Chile
Andrea Paz (Viña del Mar, Chile, 1988) studied visual arts at the University of Chile and holds a bachelor’s degree in audiovisual communication with a concentration in film from the University of Arts, Sciences, and Communication (UNIACC) in Santiago, Chile. Through drawing, collage, and ceramic techniques, the artist alternates between scenes of the most organic and ordinary aspects of life and death. However, she chooses to work with what is almost invisible to us: minerals, grains, the growth of fungi, the multiplication and division of human cells, as well as memory and fragility—all to speak to the daily life she faced upon her arrival in Portugal—nature as a metaphor for starting from scratch as an immigrant, a mother, and an artist, in that order. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Aesthetics and Art Studies, with a specialization in film and photography, at Nova FCSH.
