Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Painting by Oleksandr Topchyi
80 x 80 cm • Oil on canvas
Location:
Kyiv, Ukraine
The phrase "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is attributed to Oscar Wilde. It meaning is that beauty is not a property of an object, but rather a subjective reaction of the viewer to it, and that each person sees beauty in their own unique perception. I tried to apply this phrase to the world-famous artwork of Kazimir Malevich, adding my creative compositional solutions. It is known that Kazimir Malevich created four versions of the "Black Square," all of which differed only in size. My artwork is based on the dimensions of the very first version of the "Black Square."
