Artist from Germany
Miora Acker is a Franco-Malagasy contemporary artist from Madagascar. She studied fine arts at Atelier Clouet and Visual Communication at ESAT in Paris. Her practice focuses on the exploration of the mediums of acrylic painting and linoprinting expressed in a socio-figurative style. Images and words are some of the elements the artist chooses to work with. Madagascar and its traditions have shaped Miora Acker’s journey. Having grown up in this environment, Madagascar is deeply ingrained in her DNA and is today the core of her work. Her multicultural background, which was initially a source of disorientation, prompted her to embark on a search for identity. Through her art, she delves into the multifaceted nature of identity, examining the interplay of cultural influences, social challenges, and personal narratives. She explores the historical and contemporary realities of Malagasy society, investigating themes such as colonialism, animism, syncretism, and the impact of socio-economic disparities. Her work depicts situations and scenes of everyday life and allude to current social and cultural landscapes. Her solo exhibitions include Antananarivo streets (Is’art galerie 2024, Antananarivo), Nos Belles ne balancent pas leur porc: elles les dévorent (Is’art galerie 2019, Antananarivo) , Flux (Gourmet 2019, Antananarivo), Appareil-Apparat (Little Henessy 2018, Antananarivo). Her collective exhibitions include Zwölften Tempelhofer Kunstausstellung, Haus Am Kleistpark (Galerie Im Tempelhof, Berlin), Line + Color (Lite-HAUS Galerie+Projektraum, Berlin), WWW Festival (2020, Zimbabwe).
