CONRAD
Painting by Bohdan Burenko
100 x 130 cm • Canvas, Acrylic
This painting captures an interpretation of human essence through the lens of post-cubism. The fragmented and intertwined geometry of the face resembles a labyrinth of consciousness, dissolving into existential questions. Set against a green background, which creates an illusion of stability, the face’s form constantly disintegrates and reconstructs, conveying the spirit of Kafkaesque — anxiety, absurdity, and an incomprehensible order amidst chaos.
A Victorian undertone emerges in the restrained color palette and stark contrasts, as if the face is hidden behind a black-and-white photograph from a forgotten era. At the same time, the new weird aesthetic evokes a rupture between the familiar and the bizarre, inviting the viewer to delve into their own fears and wonder.
This artwork is a meeting point between traditional motifs and postmodern deconstruction. CONRAD raises more questions than it answers, leaving the viewer searching for their own meaning within its fragments.
