Elnara Nasirli
Artist from Azerbaijan
As an artist rooted in environmental technology, I draw inspiration from the intersection of biotechnology and mixed media. My work transcends conventional boundaries, weaving together painting, sculpture, collage, and installation to construct boundless biomorphic realms. Guided by the Greek roots of 'bios' (life) and 'morphe' (form), my visual language evokes the essence of organic shapes and forms. Each space I craft beckons viewers into immersive audio-visual odysseys, inviting exploration of diverse facets of the human experience, self-expression, and the natural world. Through this journey, I aspire to cultivate emotional healing and deepen environmental awareness. My artistic mission extends beyond mere aesthetics; it's a profound exploration of the transformative potential inherent in creative expression. By engaging with my art, both myself and the audience embark on a journey of neural transformation, discovering the resilience and liberation that can arise from confronting and overcoming life's challenges.

The Coal Room
Mixed media by Elnara Nasirli
100 x 100 cm • Canvas, Coal
The Coal Room, 2023 Coal and Canvas The Coal Room presents a meditative finale to the exhibition, offering an immersive experience. Enclosed within off white canvas walls and centred around a mound of coal, this installation encourages visitors to engage in a creative process by crafting drawings with coal. This act of creation serves as a means for personal healing and reflection, aligning with the exhibition's exploration of humanity's deep and reciprocal bond with Earth, and mirroring the artist's own journey of recovery through art and nature. By utilising coal as the medium, the piece draws attention to our carbon footprint and its environmental ramifications. Inspired by Robin Wall Kimmerer’s "Braiding Sweetgrass," the installation underscores the necessity of a balanced relationship with the natural world. As participants add their drawings, this piece marks the culmination of the exhibition's narrative, from Elnara's Living Studio performance to the visitors' active engagement, forming a full circle that highlights the shared creative journey between the artist and the audience.
