Katerina Lipovka
Artist from Ukraine
I am an art project manager, architect and artist based in Kyiv, Ukraine. My architectural background strongly influences my artwork; mainly I research and illustrate the architecture, urban issues and spatial solutions. I use two simultaneous approaches in my work: a visual, inspirational-based approach, and an informative, knowledge-based approach. I analyse urban challenges, seeking out historical and cultural contexts to create my drawings. My art focuses on graphic solutions and composition, with dominant linear and geometric volumes and sharp transitions from dark to light. I prefer to use mediums such as ink, felt-tip pen, and coloured pencils.

This series explores the problem of urban noise and the dissemination of sound and information. The Ukrainian city of Lviv was chosen as the prototype for the artwork. I explore this theme through the use of wires found in an old city. Urban buzz, resulting from density and proximity, has become a significant concern for urban planners and scientists. In modern cities, even small sounds like vehicle noise or conversations can reverberate and become part of the urban soundscape. My artwork concentrates on the state of the urban environment, focusing on architecture and abstract patterns rather than specific sources of noise.
