The Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF) is an international charitable organisation founded in Hong Kong in 2003 and now operating and registered in multiple countries, including Portugal as Associação SAF. SAF has a dual mission: to recognise and promote contemporary artists, and to deliver expressive arts programmes that support the emotional wellbeing of disadvantaged children. Since its inception, SAF has raised nearly US$16 million, supporting thousands of children worldwide and providing hundreds of artists with international exposure and career opportunities. Alongside its long established prize in Asia, SAF expanded its prize programme to Africa and Portugal in 2021. In Portugal, SAF delivers expressive arts programmes across three regions: Estremoz, Lisbon and the Algarve. These include certified art therapy sessions and free, artist-led community workshops designed to give children safe, creative spaces to express themselves. Programmes run in collaboration with local partners and social organisations, responding directly to community needs.
