Darina Smolkina

Darina Smolkina is a Ukrainian artist specializing in surrealism and symbolism. Born and raised in Kyiv, Ukraine, Darina moved to Lisbon at the age of 19, shortly after completing her education. Her early experiences as an immigrant in a foreign country deeply shaped her artistic path. In her paintings, Darina frequently portrays characters navigating psychological challenges, whether shaped by societal pressures or self-imposed struggles. Central to her work are themes of societal boundaries, norms, and rules. At times, her art evokes the ambiance of a theatrical performance, capturing the essence of actors in a single, striking moment.
