"Tense horizon line" – series of watercolors and oil painting landscapes. 2022 I always drew sketches from nature. What is reflected in quick sketches is elusive, how every minute of our life is special and it will never be repeated. I often think what the constant reproductions of the same landscape mean to me. A large number of sketches are made before choosing one or another one. It's about the relentless search and subjective choice and the fact that you can never make two identical options. A new depth opens up in a narrowed view of an object or a landscape. Depth is just about the sea. I spent every summer in Crimea by the sea. My grandfather's relatives come from there. Also, for 4 years in a row, I participated in the Biryuchy residence, which was also based on the Sea of Azov. A whole series of works in oil are painted in real life sea sketches. Constantly looking at the horizon and weather changes is a normal course of everyday life near the sea. I can only imagine what people feel when they look towards the Black Sea now. A black alarm emanates from where enemy Russian warships sail from over the horizon, making daily rocket attacks on Ukrainian land from the sea. This new series, unlike the previous one, arose only from memory. The image deeply imprinted on the subcortex of the brain is reproduced every time anew. An ephemeral memory is constantly changing. But this is only a memory, so it does not have natural colors.
