About Vês Tres

VÊS.TRÊS - more than a collective composed by Ana Malta, Madalena Pequito, and Maria de Brito Matias - is a woman artist herself. Formed in 2018 after completing their Painting degrees at the Fine Arts University of Lisbon, V3 explores a shared creative vision where three styles, three palettes, and three expressions merge into one. The question remains: "Do you see the three?"

First of all, we would love to know: Who is Vês Três? Can you walk us through the creation journey of this artist and name inspiration?

After finishing college, we felt the need to continue working together, sharing a space and sharing ideas. One afternoon we decided to gather to paint and we only bough one canvas, and little did we know that Vês Três was being created.

Born from mutual support and dialogue, VÊS.TRÊS highlights the power of collaboration in both art and society. As three independent artists working as one, we create vibrant and colorful works that reflect unity, identity, and shared creativity.

There’s a persistent stereotype that “women tend to have rivalries with one another and don't collaborate effectively” - yet your collective completely defies this narrative. How do you respond to these outdated perspectives, specially in the art scene and based in your experience creating art as an all-female collective and studio?

We know that working together—especially in the arts—can be tricky. And yes, we get asked about it all the time! But here’s the thing: Vês Três isn’t three artists—it’s one. Our individual egos take a backseat because creating together is all about sharing, flowing naturally, and most importantly, having fun.

There’s no overwhelming pressure, just honest collaboration. We started as close friends, and V3 has only made that bond stronger. By respecting each other’s time and artistic paths, we’ve built a connection that fuels creativity, brings exciting opportunities, and allows us to create something truly special—together.

Your work brings fresh energy and perspective to the art scene. How do you see the conversation around gender in the art world evolving, and what changes do you hope to see and contribute to through your art?

Our experiences as women influence our works, just like the influence our lives. We aim to use our voices to share these experiences and challenges we face. Through this process, we hope to create closeness, foster collaboration, and empathic discourses.
